R. Kevin Byars serves as the Marshall County Sheriff. Prior to being elected Sheriff in 2006, Byars served the community as a Detective for the Sheriff’s Office and also as a Patrol Deputy. Sheriff Byars has also served his community as a Park Ranger and a Deputy Jailer.
The mission of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies within Marshall County and their efforts within the community to preserve the public peace, protect the rights of persons and property, prevent crime, and generally provide assistance to citizens in urgent situations. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the collection of county taxes, security of the courts, the service of legal process and orders of the court, and the enforcement of Marshall County ordinances and Kentucky Revised Statures within the boundaries of Marshall County.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office provides services to an area of approximately 300 square miles, with over 900 miles of roadways, and a population base of approximately 32,000 citizens. The Sheriff’s Office responds to more than 19,000 calls for service annually.
